Mexico City- Not Just for Gang Wars

I went to Mexico City for two reasons:

1. It was the Day of the Dead weekend!
2. My boyfriend's grampa died, so we were there to honor him and put his ashes in the family crypt. Mexico has a lovely way of making death a joyous, though still sad, event.

The flight to Mexico was unlike any trip I've ever experienced. Mainly because I got to fly first class. I'm now incredibly aware of the inferior position of coach. The chairs were comfy like a big king sized feather bed, and, after a few first class beverages, there was a temptation to christen that feather bed in first class style. I refrained, regretfully.

Mexico city was delightful! The street markets were full of color, food, trinkets, and little skeletons to celebrate the festivities! There were Day of the Dead alters set up for everyone's ancestors containing food, candies, toys (for dead children), party poppers, and other afterlife necessities. It was certainly a new way to honor those that have passed on before us... a positive spin on death.

There is something to be said about traveling to Mexico with a half Mexican boyfriend. There is also something to be said about Mexican baked goods. Both a Brian and a pastry are lovely to walk hand in hand with down the street. Both also satisfy particular cravings. So overall I would have to say the bakeries and the authentic Mexican boyfriend were the best parts of Mexico city. The food is a close second.

Chips and salsa were two items not found on the menus of Mexico City! Instead I ate cactus. When Mr. Boyfriend's parents, sister, and brother-in-law suggested copious amounts of wine and cheese each night on the veranda, I knew I was in love with Mexico forever.
